So, by the looks of it, I've got three working sensor boards but only one functional camera. Swapping the camera module from the first one to the other two (the camera module is only held in place by its connector) caused them to work, oddly enough. The other two arrived today, and both failed to work at all. I bought one a few weeks ago, but it seemed a bit flaky (hit-and-miss on the face detection), so I bought two more, under the assumption that the camera module might be faulty (dead pixels, out of focus, etc). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When cash flows are stable and increasing in size, it is easier for a business to invest excess cash in longer-term investments that deliver a higher yield. Conversely, if a business were to sell to customers in more suspect financial condition, their payments may be substantially delayed or they may not pay at all - which negatively impacts the predictability of cash flows. When a business only sells to customers in excellent financial condition, the payments from them are much more likely to arrive on time. A key source of cash flow uncertainty is the timing of cash receipts from accounts receivable. In order to ensure that its cash balance remains sufficient to deal with all expected obligations (plus a buffer for unexpected ones), management should monitor the timing of cash inflows and outflows, as well as any uncertainties associated with those cash flows. Since a business cannot operate without cash, it needs to closely monitor every aspect of cash inflows and outflows. Cash outflows related to fixed asset purchases can spike shortly after the start of a new fiscal year, right after the annual capital budget has been approved. Cash Flow from Investment ActivitiesĬash flow from investment activities are caused by payments made into investment vehicles, loans made to other entities, or the purchase of fixed assets. Large debt payments or stock repurchases can cause substantial one-time financing cash outflows. Cash Flow from Financing ActivitiesĬash flow from financing activities are caused by the interest and principal payments made by the entity, or the repurchase of company stock, or the issuance of dividends. Cash outflows can vary substantially when business operations are highly seasonal. Examples of these cash outflows are payroll, the cost of goods sold, rent, and utilities. Cash Flow from OperationsĬash flow from operations is comprised of expenditures made as part of the ordinary course of operations. What Causes Cash Outflows?Ĭash outflows originate with the sources noted below. Items that may be included in investing activities include the sale of fixed assets, the sale of investment instruments, the collection of loans, and the proceeds from insurance settlements. Cash Flow from Investment ActivitiesĬash inflows from investment activities come from gains on invested funds. It can be acceptable for a business to take on substantial amounts of new financing, if it is using the funds internally to expand operations or acquire other organizations. Items that may be included in financing activities are the sale of stock, issuance of debt, and donor contributions restricted to long-term use. The cash flow from operations needs to be positive over the long term, or else a business will need to resort to alternative forms of financing to ensure that it has enough cash to stay in operation.Ĭash inflows from financing activities come from debt incurred by the entity. The bulk of all cash flows will likely be reported within this category. It includes the primary revenue-generating activities of an entity, such as cash received from the sale of goods or services, royalties on the use of company-owned intellectual property, commissions for sales on behalf of other entities, and cash paid to suppliers. Cash Flow from OperationsĬash inflows from operations is cash paid by customers for services or goods provided by the entity. ![]() An alternative way to calculate the cash flow of an entity is to add back all non-cash expenses (such as depreciation and amortization) to its net after-tax profit, though this approach only approximates actual cash flows. What Causes Cash Inflows?Ĭash inflows come from the sources noted below. The time period over which cash flow is tracked is usually a standard reporting period, such as a month, quarter, or year. In particular, investors want to see positive cash flows even after payments have been made for capital expenditures (which is known as free cash flow). A positive level of cash flow must be maintained for an entity to remain in business, while positive cash flows are also needed to generate value for investors. Cash flow is the net amount of cash that an entity receives and disburses during a period of time. ![]() ![]() On October 14, 1901, local citizens formed a company for the purpose of selling vacant lots in the town to encourage settlement. ![]() ![]() On August 4, 1901, the Chickasaw Nation's land was opened to white settlement, in turn making Minco a railroad hub for the entire region. Maintaining a consistent direction over such a diverse array of lines proved unfeasible for Halston, and something was lost along the way: the cachet and the allure that made a Halston a Halston. Perhaps this gave additional time for these brands to arrive at a more singular vision. Acquisitions of these companies by larger conglomerates occurred much later than Halston’s, often decades into the brand’s existence. These designers’ corporate and creative decisions were arguably more tightly controlled than Halston’s devil-may-care diffusion. He lived out of the public eye until his death in 1990. In 1988, Halston was diagnosed with AIDS. Halston was relegated to the sidelines, and his corporate deals effectively cost him the right to his own name. Meanwhile, Halston’s growing reputation of excessive spending and erratic behavior increasingly left his brand to the decisions of businessmen and creative control to other parties. Bergdorf Goodman eventually dropped his line altogether. Wary high-end retailers, including his early employer, Bergdorf Goodman, were fearful that the prestige of the Halston name was sullied by its presence on the racks of a mass-market merchandiser. The JCPenney’s deal ultimately proved to be damaging for Halston. By the mid-1980s, industry insiders were suggesting that the garments were not selling as well as expected. While Halston contended it was immensely successful, claiming it generated $1 billion in sales, JCPenney’s executives were less enthusiastic. While high-end fashion designer Pierre Cardin pioneered this form of licensing in Europe, the project of pairing a high-fashion designer with a mass merchandiser best known for selling Levi’s, hardware and household goods was unusual in the United States. The Halston III line for JCPenney was the first by a high-end American fashion designer licensing his name. And with Halston International, the designer created “component” knit pieces – not outfits, but singular garments, turtlenecks, sweater sets, shirts and coats – that consumers could mix and match to their delight. Meanwhile, the Halston Originals boutique sold dresses to department stores across the country, with prices ranging from US$150 to over $1,000.
